Obituary

Hazel Mae Lattin was born in 1932, in Jonesville, TX to Paul Sterling, Sr. and Eva Sterling. Hazel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Old Border Baptist Church in Waskom, TX under the leadership of the late Rev. S. H. Howard. She attended public school in Marshall, TX and graduated from Pemberton High School. After moving to Houston, TX, Hazel met and married her husband, Jim H. Lattin. To this union, seven children were born. She was also blessed to raise another child as her own. Hazel was employed as a chef until she pursued her passion and became a nurse at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and SCCI Hospital which she joyfully dedicated herself to until she retired in 2013.

Hazel Mae Lattin passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memories six children: Joyce Lanette Sterling, Erwin Glenn Lattin, Cynthia Lynn Lattin, Paul Vincent Lattin (Shawn), Eva Fields (Tim), and Michael Sophus (Lovie) all of Houston and Humble, TX; sixteen grandchildren: Erwin, Vincentia, Claressa, Tracenia, Nikki, Roshena, Jasma, Jamail, Brittany, Brianna, Aliena, Shawn, Kerry, Akela, Michael Jr., and Amber; as well as twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Hazel is also survived by two sisters: Sammie L. Evans of Houston, TX and E. Jean Hinton of Shreveport, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; and many who considered her like a mother to them.
