Wallace Dennis Obituary

Wallace King Dennis was born in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Wallace Kellogg Dennis and Lillian (King) Dennis. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church, under Rev. Dr. William Collins, where he sang in the choir. Being led by the Lord as a teenager, Wallace later convinced his family to join the Baptist Church of the Holy Communion under Pastor Bartlett Wilkerson.

Wallace matriculated through the St. Louis and University City school systems as a Boy Scout and a superior athlete in football and track (including state-level competition). He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.  He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri where he participated in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). Soon after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, he moved to Houston, Texas. There he worked and dutifully served in the United States Army Reserve. On November 5, 1985, he joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and was initially assigned to the Detention Bureau. He went on to graduate from the police academy Class B3-88. He was promoted to detective working first in Warrants and last in Child Abuse, before he retired as Sergeant in September 29, 2009.

Wallace had a soft spoken demeanor with deliberative style.  He was an avid reader and a connoisseur of many of the finer things in this life, including jazz music, art, fashion and food.  He loved football and NBA basketball.  He was a competitive chess player and a gym enthusiast.  He enjoyed travel, especially long relaxing drives. He could be counted on to attend basketball games, band performances, recitals, graduations, family reunions….Wallace loved to support and spend time with his family!

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents and leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Dramon Foster and Wallace Rashad Dennis; one daughter, Ashley Yvonne Dennis; one grandson, Langston Foster; three brothers, Rev. Dr. Clyde (Imogene) Crumpton of University City, Missouri, Brian Dennis of St. Louis, MO, and Keith (Christy) Dennis of Marietta, GA; one uncle, Raymond (Frances) Dennis of St. Louis, MO; two nieces, Alexis Dennis and Lauren Dennis; and a host of cousins, friends and God children.
