In 1950, Will Freeman Tyler, Sr. was born in Wharton, TX to his parents, Harvey and Beaulah Tyler. He grew up in Eagle Lake, TX where he graduated from Eagle Lake High School.
Freeman, as he was affectionately called, joined the US Army and after his discharge, he attended barber college in Houston, TX where he received his license. This enabled him to open Tyler’s Barber Shop in Eagle Lake, TX. Prior to opening his location, he worked at Richmond State School as a barber. While owning his shop, he also worked as a foreman at Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land, TX and as security at Nan-Ya Plastics in Wharton, TX.
As a child, Freeman attended Providence Baptist Church where his uncle was the pastor, Rev. Coby Shorter, Jr. Later in life, he moved his membership to White Cloud Baptist Church where he became a Deacon. He served faithfully until his passing.
Sadly, Freeman passed away on July 25, 2022. He leaves to cherish his loving memories one son, Will, Jr. (Jennifer); three daughters: Erica (Charles), Shandra, and Tysha; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Blanche and Lillie; one uncle, William; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
